The Multisensory Math Approach is a concept centered approach which incorporates evidence-based strategies from the What Works Clearinghouse, neuroscience, Common Core and State Standards as well as strategies from the general multisensory instructional approaches such those in the Orton-Gillingham tradition. This workshop will focus on foundational concepts and operations, but it will also include links to demonstrate how these foundations inform upper-level mathematics. Participants will learn hands-on instructional strategies with manipulative objects for modeling
numeracy, place value concepts, all basic operations, fractions and decimals. We will also explore different types of learning challenges which impact math for both teaching and learning.

May 14th, 2022 9 am-1:30 pm : Research and rational behind the approach, core instructional strategies for meeting the needs of all students through differentiation, foundation concepts and skills in K-2 mathematics including numeracy, place value concepts and basic operations. Explicit conceptually accurate instructional language is key.
May 21st, 2022 9 am-1:30 pm: The perfect storm: When Reading and Math Meet, multiplication and division concepts and patterns for diverse learning populations, fractions and decimals don’t need to be daunting, ideas for intervention and paving the way for algebra.
