Webinar: Promoting Positive Identity, Mood and Executive Functions in Students with Dyslexia

Children with dyslexia may also struggle with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. In addition, many kids with dyslexia also have ADHD and other executive functioning issues. This session will:

 Teach effective, strength-based ways parents can discuss dyslexia with their children
 Create a model for aiding children in achieving a positive identity
 Review practical, easy to use anxiety and mood management techniques for parents
 Identify the red flags of more serious anxiety and mood disorders
 Discuss what executive functions are, ways they impact students with dyslexia, and strategies for teaching executive functioning

The presenter will also share personal anecdotes as a parent of a son with dyslexia.

Presentation by: Roberto Olivardia

Dr. Roberto Olivardia is a Clinical Psychologist and Lecturer in the Department of
Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He maintains a private psychotherapy practice in
Lexington, Massachusetts, where he specializes in the treatment of ADHD, executive
functioning issues, and issues that face students with learning differences. He also
specializes in the treatment of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Obsessive-Compulsive
Disorder (OCD) and eating disorders. He has appeared in publications such as Time, GQ
and Rolling Stone, and he has been featured on Good Morning America, CNN, and VH1.
He has spoken on numerous radio shows, podcasts, and webinars and presents at many
talks and conferences around the country. He currently serves on the Professional
Advisory Boards for Children and Adults with ADHD (CHADD), The Attention Deficit
Disorder Association (ADDA) and the National Association for Males with Eating
Disorders. He sits on the Scientific Advisory Board for ADDitude, is a consulting expert on
Understood and an active member of Decoding Dyslexia–Massachusetts.
